Sicilian Coffee Granita – 101RECIPES

Sharing is caring!

Ingredients for 6 cups

  • 200 ml of coffee = 1 mocha out of 4
  • 350ml water
  • 100 g of white sugar
  • whipped cream to taste
  • cocoa to taste
  • coffee beans

To prepare the real Sicilian coffee granita, we start, as always, with coffee: we advise you to prepare a mocha for 4 people. Put the water and the sugar in a saucepan, let it boil slightly for 5 minutes so that it acquires the consistency of a syrup, then take the mocha and pour the coffee into the saucepan, mixing everything. At this point, pour the mixture into a glass bowl and once the mixture has reached room temperature, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place in the freezer for 5 hours. But be careful: don’t forget, because every 30 minutes you will have to stir the mixture to prevent the formation of ice crystals! If you wish, you can also use a Minipimer type immersion blender, in doing so your Sicilian coffee granita will be frozen well but its consistency will be soft. After 5 hours, pour the Sicilian coffee granita into the cups and top with a little whipped cream, a pinch of cocoa and the essential coffee bean as the signature of this masterpiece. The Sicilian tradition is to taste the granita with a typical “col tuppo” brioche or with a good coffee sandwich perhaps. We bring a bit of Sicily to the world, with 101CAFFE’ Sicilian Coffee Granita and Sicilian Coffee!
